Currently serving as Country Director for Cameroon and Gabon at the Department for Business and Trade since August 2023, Michael Kimbi plays a crucial role in shaping and implementing trade strategies between the United Kingdom and these Central African countries. His expertise spans project management, business analysis, strategic planning, and public policy, which he leverages to support UK companies entering these markets and to strengthen bilateral trade relations.
Before taking on his current role, Kimbi was Country Director for Cameroon from October 2020 to August 2023, during which he led the UK government’s diversity and inclusion policy across the Department for International Trade (DIT) Africa network. Overseeing more than 100 professionals across 23 countries, he focused on fostering inclusive work environments while driving economic exchanges between the UK and Cameroon.
Kimbi’s commitment to enhancing trade relations extended beyond Cameroon. From February 2019 to August 2023, he spearheaded commercial initiatives for the British High Commission in Yaoundé, advising the British High Commissioner on strategic trade issues and representing the DIT in official business dealings with Cameroon and neighboring countries, including Gabon, Chad, and Equatorial Guinea.
